Case study 1

Transferring from an Ontario College to a Canadian University (Business Program)

Student Profile:
Sophia completed two years in a Business Administration diploma program at a college in Ontario. She aspired to pursue a full Bachelor's degree to open more doors in corporate finance and eventually pursue an MBA. Her target universities included Ryerson (TMU), York U, and Brock U.

Counselling Approach:
We assessed Sophia’s completed coursework and GPA to determine transfer eligibility and credit recognition. After identifying programs with strong college-university articulation agreements, we advised her on supplemental requirements such as personal statements, reference letters, and application timelines via OUAC. We also supported her in a meeting with Brock U's representative and emphasized her hands-on experience from co-op placements in her application.

Outcome:
Sophia was accepted into Ryerson University’s Bachelor of Commerce program with transfer credits for nearly two full years, allowing her to enter as a third-year student.

Student Profile:
Noah began his undergraduate studies in Life Sciences at U of T Scarborough (UTSC) but sought access to broader research opportunities, specialized upper-year courses, and networking events available at the St. George campus. He was particularly interested in transferring to pursue Neuroscience or Human Biology in a more research-intensive setting.

Counselling Approach:
We provided tailored guidance on the internal transfer process within the University of Toronto, helping Noah understand eligibility criteria, GPA requirements, and course equivalency. We assisted in preparing a strong Statement of Intent, emphasizing his academic achievements at UTSC, research interests, and rationale for transferring campuses. We also reviewed his transcript to ensure alignment with program prerequisites and helped him select second-year courses that would support a smooth academic transition.

Outcome:
Noah successfully transferred to the U of T St. George campus, entering the Human Biology Specialist program. He retained all completed credits and was soon engaged in faculty-led research and extracurricular opportunities within the downtown academic community.

Case study 3

Transferring Between Canadian Universities Across Provinces (Psychology Program)

Student Profile:
Jasmine began her undergraduate studies in Psychology at an Atlantic university, but found the curriculum too general and research opportunities limited. Seeking a more academically intensive environment with greater focus on cognitive neuroscience, she decided to transfer to an Ontario-based university such as Queen’s, Western, or the University of Toronto.

Counselling Approach:
We guided Jasmine through the interprovincial transfer process, helping her identify programs that aligned with her academic interests and offered stronger research pathways. We reviewed her transcripts and course syllabi to assess credit transferability, then helped her prepare a focused statement of intent that clearly articulated her academic goals, reason for transfer, and passion for research. We also assisted her in securing academic references from professors and coordinated her applications through OUAC, ensuring compliance with Ontario university deadlines and requirements.

Outcome:
Jasmine received transfer offers from multiple institutions and chose to enroll in Queen’s University’s Honours BA in Psychology, where she was granted substantial credit and was able to engage in lab research opportunities starting in her second year.

Student Profile:
Ethan was a motivated first-year student enrolled in an Environmental Studies program at a Canadian university. Although he appreciated his program’s foundation, he sought a more interdisciplinary and globally focused curriculum with access to applied research and fieldwork. He decided to transfer to a U.S. university with a solid reputation in environmental sciences and sustainability, targeting schools ranked in the #40–60 range, such as University of Georgia, University of Connecticut, and Rutgers University–New Brunswick.

Counselling Approach:
Our team helped Ethan identify programs that offered strong coursework in environmental policy, ecology, and sustainability, while maintaining a collaborative academic environment. We provided guidance on course alignment for credit transfer, supported his Common App and Coalition Application essays, and worked with him to emphasize his strengths—his involvement in campus climate advocacy, a local reforestation volunteer project, and a self-initiated study on urban green space access. We also helped him explore need- and merit-based aid options available to international transfer students.

Outcome:
Ethan received offers from multiple schools and chose to transfer to Rutgers University–New Brunswick, where he was admitted to the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. He earned credit for most of his first-year coursework and is now actively involved in undergraduate research and student-led environmental initiatives.
